When Rainbows Fall
A new image and poem from Art & Soul by Karen
When rainbows fall from the sky, the earth shakes, winds blow and water flows
at a rapid pace from the smallest brook to the biggest streams to the open sea.
Don’t fear the rain as birds fly high, embrace this magic from the sky and the not knowing where or how the colors fade and fall. This fragmented palette of reds, greens, yellows and blues, glide and collide into the earth without sound or fury, just quiet delight.
As sunlight fades and darkness falls, a new morning dawns as colors arise without fanfare or witness, like a phoenix rising, life and beauty will arise in new forms of grandeur and glory.
I painted the image above during a rainstorm in Aotearoa from a barn (photo below) with easels, paints, and large canvases scattered around. The rains began well before sunset and went through the night. While winds rattled windows and the water formed streams and puddles all around, no wifi or cell reception to be had, this shelter had light and warmth, a space to escape and create.

I share these images and words now, as I feel the shifts in energy of this world. Now back in the United States, I sense heaviness of a storm approaching alongside a clearing and reorganizing. May this post be a beacon of of light and hope for when the rainbows fall. I know and believe they will rise again, just as the phoenix rises from the ashes, signifying resilience, rebirth and the ability to overcome destruction and emerge stronger. What do these images and words invoke for you?
